Wish me luck, peeps

I’ve had my 2013 Veloster non-turbo for about 11 years and I’m just shy of 200,000 miles on original engine and transmission.

Today, I was heading down the interstate and it suddenly went into limp mode as I accelerated and had a consistent flashing light. I’ve replaced ignition coils before due to misfires but this seemed different.

While this didn’t ride rough and the engine sounds fine, I’ve never had the flashing stay on and never had full on limp mode. Didn’t have my code checker with me. I drove it straight to my mechanic right before closing. Fortunately, it was actually closer than home at that point. We’ll see what happened tomorrow.

The way I see it, the best case scenario is it’s the one coil I haven’t replaced or my sparks. Mid-case is a bunch of things that may be kind of expensive including the one I suspect — a plugged cat. Worst is something more catastrophic with the engine itself. If it is in the last category, I might have to let it go.

I‘m kind of attached to this little thing. Hoping for the best. Fortunately I have a good shop that doesn’t charge out the butt. But they’re usually honest with me if a repair isn’t cost effective.

I’ve gotten used to random things bugging out with electronics and engine. But I’ve got a weird feeling about this one.

Like I said, wish me luck.

Edit: I’ve got a couple of updates in the comments. The short answer is it seems to be drivable and might not be as bad as I thought (sensor replacement). The bad is we’re not 100% sure without a bearing clearance test.
