Hey everyone,

I’m trying to understand a noise I’ve been noticing on my Kawasaki Z900. I know it’s hard (and not really correct) to diagnose anything just from a description, but maybe someone has experienced something similar.

Here are the symptoms:

  • Only appears when the bike is fully warmed up (around 80–90°C and above)
  • Light, somewhat rhythmic ticking/knocking sound, seems to come from the clutch/gearbox area
  • Not perfectly consistent, kind of comes and goes
  • I can feel it slightly through the clutch lever
  • Happens when standing still, both:
    • in neutral
    • and with the clutch pulled in
  • Mileage is ~12,000 km
  • Oil is changed regularly every 4–4.5k km

When the bike is cold, everything sounds and feels normal.

So far it doesn’t affect riding, shifting, or clutch behavior — just the sound/feel when hot.

I’m currently thinking it might be something like clutch basket play or normal mechanical noise, but I’d like to hear if anyone has had the same symptoms and what it turned out to be.

Appreciate any input 👍
