I'm finishing my basement and will be closing the ceiling. Currently, there is a TON of noise from the main floor for even the lightest movement, but especially with young kids running around. Before closing the ceiling, I want to soundproof the best I can.

I know the drywall will help ever so slightly, but what sort of insulation is best? I was planning to use some Safe n Sound, but wasn't sure if 1 batt per bay is good enough (but obviously leaves a big gap of space), or if I need to use a stack of them to fill each cavity in its entirety. I'd need about 4x more insulation if I want to fill the entire thing snug, but only want to do so if it actually helps soundproofing.
