My son and I have been interest in the history of my seemingly vacant forever property. After finding some old maps, we believe in the 1800s the only access road that tied the mines down the road to the train station intown went right thru our property on what is now a 4 wheeler trail. A new road was made in the 20s connecting the back side of the property and this road has been abandoned likely since then. This was found with a metal detector about 2' deep in clay in a ditch. The rock and gravel was so deeply embedded we originally thought it was just chunks of slag. But after sandblasting it became very apparent that this is a door or lid of some sort.
It looks a little fancier than a clean out or access for mining equipment. Its about 8" wide. Im thinking a wood stove door or some sort. Hopefully my antiquey friends on here might recognize the distinct angled shape and logo. We've search hours online and haven't gotten a good match yet. After finding this, we're hoping there's more cool things to find. Thanks!
