Why doesn't Steam create a pop-up to say that it's downloading an update?

Why doesn't Steam create a pop-up to say that it's downloading an update?

I already knew that Steam took a while to open when you first installed it, but I never understood why, and by chance, I just found out.

I decided to open Steam here at my college because I decided to play games at college? It doesn't matter, the point is that I was in a room with a very weak signal, and I was finding it strange that Steam was taking so long to open.

Running steam in the terminal, I discovered that it was downloading an update, but then I wonder, WHY ISN'T THERE A POP-OP WARNING THAT A DOWNLOAD IS IN PROGRESS???

I haven't used Windows for two years, but I'm almost certain it shows a pop-up that it's downloading an update, so why on earth don't we have that in Linux?

I have a concern about oniguruma

Well, today I decided to go back to using FreeBSD as the main operating system on my PC.

While I was configuring Sway, reading the dependencies of the things I installed, this Oniguruma caught my attention. It had a message saying that it no longer receives updates, and looking at freshports, I saw that it would be removed from the repositories on 2026-12-01.

I was thoughtful and thought, "Okay, but why do I need this?", so, as a curious user, I ran pkg info -r oniguruma to find out who needed oniguruma, and to my dismay, it's a dependency of jq.

Now I have a big question: if oniguruma will no longer be present in the repositories, will jq and other software that depend on it also be removed?

If that happened, it would be very annoying for me, because I use DiscordBSD, and jq is a dependency of it...

WARNING: For some reason, my sound card died and I didn't realize it (maybe because these last few weeks I've only been using my laptop with Bluetooth headphones). SORRY FOR ALL THE CONFUSION, ULTRAMARINE IS REALLY WONDERFUL!

For some reason, Ultramarine didn't detect my laptop's sound card. It's a Dell Inspiron 7348, and I've already tested it on countless Linux distributions, so the problem isn't incompatibility.

I ran the commands lspci | grep -i audio, aplay -l, pactl list short sinks, and dmesg | grep -i audio. And they returned these outputs, respectively:

00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller (rev 09)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)

dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

From what I understand, it detected the sound card, but didn't load it. Does anyone know how to fix this?
