I’ve been working on a puzzle concept that mixes chess movement with Sudoku-style puzzle logic.

Each white piece must move exactly once, and you have to cover every square.

I’d really welcome some feedback.

If you want to try some puzzles, I’ve got a playable version here: http://www.chessuko.com

Update:

Thank you all for the feedback, it’s been truly helpful. I'm looking into all concerns and recommendations.

Right now, knights don’t jump. They move in an L-shape, but they draw a full path like the other pieces, and that path has to be clear. This is intentional, since the core of the game is about covering the board with paths.

I’m considering a change:
Let knights jump directly to their destination instead of drawing a path.

Before I experiment with it, I’d love your thoughts:

  • Would you prefer knights to jump, or keep the current path-based movement?
  • How do you think jumping would change the puzzle mechanics or difficulty?
  • If knights do jump, how would you visually represent that on the board?

Right now, all moves draw a continuous line. If knights jump, I’d still want a clear visual connection between the starting square and the destination.

I’m trying to balance:

  • Staying intuitive (matching chess expectations)
  • Keeping the logic interesting and readable
  • Maintaining a clean visual style

I’d really appreciate any thoughts, especially from people who enjoy logic puzzles or board game design.

Thanks!
