Got a call yesterday from someone claiming to be with “Omega Auto Care”. Very professional setup. I had a Ford extended warranty before this and they had all the details about it - what all was covered and offered me a similar warranty for 4 years for $210 a month for 2 years with a $300 dollar down-payment. That comes out to $5400. Then she said that we have a special discount offer for me based on my driving history, and that offer price is 4400 with 170 a month for 2 years.

I searched for Omega Auto care online and found out that it was a legit company.I asked her to send me the offer details via email to verify the warranty details. She said she couldn’t do that without a down payment and it had to be right now or blah blah special pricing will change.

This is where I messed up, instead of pushing her more I agreed (thing to note that I've been looking for an extended warranty deal for a couple of months now so that created a bias in my mind to go ahead with the down-payment). I had made a note mentally though to make the payment only through credit card, but I did authorize both the transactions for the down-payment and for EMI next month onwards.

She said I'll receive the documents in email within an hour, and all this is happening late evening. So I received one email around 6 with login details for a website "gotomy coverage .com", and once I login I'm just able to see a warranty card with my car and mileage details and a name 'enhanced protection' for the warranty and few other documents which were not loading. I thought let's wait out until morning.

Next day when I check my email, I notice the email from which they sent the email - 'email@ moxyws .com'.

As soon as I noticed that I knew I've been scammed, I searched online both for the email and their contact number and found them updated in BBB for scams. Then I realise that they impersonated the Omega Auto Care company she mentioned and they are frauds.

I straightaway call my credit card company, it's a Credit union actually and I have a master card. I explain them the situation and ask them to reverse the transaction as it is still in pending.

The credit card lady says she can only raise a dispute and can't reverse it as it was an approved transaction, and that I need to wait for dispute team to contact me and tell them my story. I told her that I have not received any service and I checked online it's a scam, she said I can only block your card for now as they have your details.

I tried contacting the warranty company through the number which they sold me, I was able to connect with that lady again and I asked her why I haven't received the documents yet (I didn't tell her directly that they are a scam straightaway just so that I can coax out something from her which helps me cancel this). She said they will send docs now, I tell her I'm not satisfied with their service and want to cancel and please provide me refund as I'm still in the free look up period of 30 days she had mentioned. She says you just signed up yesterday please wait and tells me she is emailing the docs now and that she will call me back in an hour.

Waited 2 more hours, nothing received. I try calling again, the call just won't go through now, so I dropped an email to them to cancel the warranty asking for a refund quoting poor service and free look period, just so that I have an email trail in writing when credit card dispute team reaches out to me.

What are the chances that I'll get my $300 back?
