What backup career path should I consider?

So I go to oxbridge/imperial and do physics. Just finishing up second year and unfortunately ending up w a low 2:1 as of now.

In first year I had a high 2:1 and applied for quant trading internship roles. Got interviews at places like Optiver and CitSec but couldn’t convert a single (failed at the technical rounds penultimate and final). I ended up getting a research internship in physics which is not where I want to end up.

Now it’s second year and my grades even lower than last year. My concerns are do I even have a chance at these roles or will I be screened out more so? My transcript is honestly abysmal this year. And if I were to apply to quant trading internships I don’t want to run the risk of ending up with nothing again so was wondering what backup roles I could realistically prepare for. My skill set is honestly tailored to trading CV wise bar the research internship I’ll be doing this summer.

Just hoping for some guidance. I don’t want to prepare for something if I’m not cut out for it but I don’t know if I am or not. Appreciate any help.

Did I shoot myself in the foot?

Long story short didn’t revise for my exams and will probably end up w a very low 2:1 for 2nd year of a 4 year course.

I’m doing physics at imperial/oxbridge and have a research internship for the summer but my main goal was to try break into quant trading. But I wanna be realistic because I don’t think I have the credentials anymore to break through screening with the low 2:1. Should I consider alternative pathways and prepare for those instead? My main concern is being screened out now before I even get OAs let alone interviews. Wondering if anyone has any insight.

Last year in first year I had a high 2:1 and got interviews and final rounds at places like optiver and imc but couldn’t convert due to weak interview performances.

I don’t know if this is even something I should aim for and really questioning if I should look at a different career path. I’m not entirely sure what I would do differently this year. I grinded typical green book and brainteasers but it didn’t help me all too much and honestly it’s terrifying. I considered maybe SWE or even quant dev/qr roles but I don’t know where to even start preparing for these and I feel like I lack the necessary qualifications.
