WWYD?

Doing a shower update. Unfinished side is to the studs. Finished side is covered by a built in shelf. We moved an existing outlet to accommodate a shower niche and we have a hole in drywall and a hole in the attached shelf. We will cover the hole on the shelf side with a blank faceplate.

On the shower side I'd like some sort of drywall patch. But not sure if I really need it or the best way to do it without demoing the shelves.

On the shower side the hole will be covered by the niche, which should be flush to the studs. That will then be covered by the waterproofing layers and tile.

Your advice is welcome!
