What Is In My Control

Last week, I stumbled upon a bag of Confederate Mardi Gras beads at a 2nd hand shop. They were labeled with tags from the store that originally sold them. I mentioned them to the person working, but it is not their shop. They mumbled a little bit, and we moved on.

I couldn't stop thinking about them and that I didn't do anything. Should I raise hell? Should I blast the shop? What can I do?

Day after day, I was regretting leaving those beads there where they could potentially be bought.

I went back to the shop 3 times but they don't have regular hours. Finally, yesterday, I went back again. I brought a beat-up Zulu coconut with me for negotiating. The owner was there this time. I went in and excitedly said, "Man, do I have a deal for you!" Initially, he denied having Confederate beads. He back pedaled in only moments and was willing to negotiate.

I love the irony of replacing the beads with the Zulu coconut. It feels right.

This is how I do my part to save the world.

Does anyone want a bunch of loose red, white, and blue beads?
