I've been awarded a "Canada Impact+ Postdoc" - details here:

$70k per year would be a fairly significant pay cut relative to my current pay in Europe. It also seems very low compared to USA postdocs.

Does anybody know if it's possible to take the two years of salary and do (say) 18 months on a higher rate? Seems crazy that a government programme like this that aims to recruit "top international research talent" is so poorly paid. I just want to avoid a pay cut by taking this award, I don't want a raise! I'd even take a 10% pay cut! But 25% seems ridiculous.

How should I go about negotiating?
