Layla kidney failure update

So I posted Friday that my 18 year old was diagnosed via bloodwork with kidney failure. I started the kidney diet food and medication (mirtazipine) yesterday since Saturday I was not going to be home to monitor her. Yesterday she definitely seemed to be perked up more even a little more talkative (she’s always been a chatty girl). Today has been even better. She’s been more interactive and coming out on her own to be fed. She even came out at our supper time (pic of her in the act) to check out what I was eating and yes I let her have a few SMALL bites of my fish. It wasn’t overly seasoned and nothing that’s toxic to cats. I am hoping that she continues to at least make even small improvements. She’s also still using the litter box regularly which she pretty much has been so thankfully no changes there. The vet said I can give it about a month and we can repeat labs or obviously return sooner if she goes backwards. Praying my girl just still hangs in there 🙏🏼 it’s so encouraging to see any little bits of kitty normalcy. Link to original post https://www.reddit.com/r/SeniorCats/s/mw7F9TgvQV

18 year old cat kidney failure

ETA we did have bloodwork done which is how she was diagnosed with kidney failure. We were there for over 2 hours. The vet is suggesting special kidney food diet and an appetite stimulant she wasn’t pushing to do any further labs today she said to start with the food, stimulant and see if it helps and if not we can look into it further.

I took my girl Layla, 18 years old in today for a follow up because I’ve noticed some changes in mood, eating etc and she has been diagnosed with kidney et failure 😔 they couldn’t give me a stage because apparently that requires more lab work and she had already been through enough as it was. So the plan is to give her food geared for kidney issues and and appetite stimulant. I’m devastated to say the least. Because judging by her bloodwork results I know she’s not at end stage kidney failure but she’s also not just a mild form of it either and obviously there’s no cure. I can’t even process things right now so I apologize if I sound all over the place. Anyone else deal with their senior kitty diagnosed with kidney failure? How did you manage? She’s still eating she not completely a mess but she definitely sleeps a lot and is low energy. I would’ve probably never even guessed anything to be wrong with her kidneys because her litter box doesn’t seem heavily overloaded with P. She doesn’t seem to be drinking excessively so I’m just kind of blindsided and this is my first and only cat so I don’t know what I’m dealing with right now.
