34 who never fished a day in my life and want to start

I grew up in the suburbs with my parents not being very outdoorsy and fishing never being a part of my life. Watched a video last month of someone doing a solo morning on a lake and it got me excited suprisingly. Lately I have been looking for something that gets me outside, away from screens and requires patience and I think this might be it. I'm based in Burlington and from what I can tell I'm pretty well positioned for this . Lake Champlain is recognized as a top bass destination and the Winooski and Lamoille rivers are nearby aswell but having options wont help when I don't know what I'm doing lol.

I have savings and am willing to invest if it makes sense but I definitely don't want to drop $300 on equipment and realize after a couple of attempts that I hate it. From what I've got I will at least need to purchase a rod and reel, a line, some hooks and bait and a fishing license for Vermont. Im not sure If I need anything after that and what I would only waste money at like a beginner I am. Can anyone tell me what a proper setup should be in terms of equipment and costs and whether there is such a thing as the type of fishing that is easier to begin with? And how realistic do you think a typical beginner fishing day would be?
