You know, one of the arguments I hate the most is when people say "oh, it's humane to abort a baby if you think they're gonna have a bad life, because that way they won't feel any more pain" because that is exactly the kind of arguments that some serial killers/mass murderers use to justify murdering their families and friends or something.

To preface this, acting on one's pedophilic desires is inherently wrong and homosexuality is not morally comparable to pedophilia in any real way.

That said, it is generally accepted by scientists that you cannot make a pedophile stop being attracted to children, just as you cannot make a gay person straight. It seems that the biological mechanisms that cause the two traits may be somewhat similar. Unlike pedophilia, though, homosexuality is not a mental illness by any definition of the term.

So, let's say in this hypothetical scenario, that the factors that cause pedophilia are indeed intrinsically linked to the factors that cause heterosexuality/homosexuality and all other sexual preferences. Now, pretend that you are a scientist that has found a cure for pedophilia (Edit: which involves both a pill that makes one's sexuality malleable, as well as a previously-undiscovered form of psychotherapy), but in doing so, you have discovered that your cure can also change all other sexual preferences depending on how you use it.

If you release your cure for pedophilia, it will become possible for pedophiles who are exclusively attracted to children (I know not all pedos are like this) to have loving relationships with adults, and the amount of children who are sexually abused by pedophiles decreases worldwide.

However, releasing your cure for pedophilia also causes a moral dilemma, as it will now become possible to make gay people straight and straight people gay. This could increase oppression and persecution against gay people, especially if your treatment is used against their will.

So, knowing all this, would you decide to release the cure, or would you hide it and make sure it never gets discovered by anyone else ever again?
