Provisional License and Money - How did you make it work?
I am a few months out from starting my practicum in year 3 of my masters program and I took the moderate pace of my program because I work full-time at another job that's is in hospitality (and my main source of income). I am making around 61k in Florida at said hospitality job and my school just sent out a job posting for an RMHCI clinician going at 45k with the agency paying 85% of health insurance costs (this is laughable). How is this possible?! How do people live off that salary let alone start paying back student loans? The median household income in the area of the posting is 74k for perspective. It seems crazy that I can make more without a degree in the hospitality industry than I can with a masters in a helping field.
My main question for this sub is how did you make it work while you were provisionally licensed? Is it fiscally smarter to work for a group practice or work for an online therapy platform? How does a single person survive this portion of becoming a fully licensed therapist?
