it always starts simple. cheap tent, random blanket from home, maybe some borrowed stuff, and you tell yourself it is just for one weekend. then you sleep terribly once and suddenly you are buying a better pad, warmer sleeping bag, small stove, camp chair, and all this other stuff you somehow “need.” now half my garage is camping gear and i am on marketplace convincing myself buying used means it does not count lol.

what was the one trip or one piece of gear that pushed you from casual camping into a full gear rabbit hole? please tell me this did not just happen to me.

i swear it always starts with just wanting one nice thing. i just wanted a basic mechanical keyboard that did not feel like mush. now i have a closet full of switches and i am building custom setups on my dining table. i see the same exact struggle with the home networking crowd and the espresso nerds. you tell yourself you are just doing one simple budget upgrade and suddenly you are eating instant noodles to afford more gear. its honestly hilarious how fast a cheap interest turns into a full blown addiction. my only real rule now is i have to sell an old piece of gear before i am allowed to buy a new one just to keep the spending down.

what was the innocent hobby that trapped you? and how do you actually convince yourself to stop buying the newest stuff?
