TL, DR: initial injury in February. Now 4cm gap with poor margins and fraying. 6 months pregnant. FML.

So I ruptured my right Achilles in February playing volleyball. Both the ER doc and the orthopedic said it wasn’t fully ruptured, gave me a boot and heel lifts, and sent me on my way. No follow-up, no PT, nothing.

Fast-forward to mid-April, I’ve been hobbling around but weight-bearing the whole time. I think surely this partial tear is healing. I try to go up on my toes. No pain, but no power. Nothing at all. So I reach back out to the orthopedic center I initially went to and asked to be reevaluated.

Another doc saw me and thought it was more serious than a partial tear. I finally got the MRI. Turns out it was a full rupture that was now a 4cm gap with poor margins and fraying. They said surgery might not even be possible. They said it will eventually fill in with scar tissue. What?

I’m now 6 months pregnant (I was about 3 months when it happened). I also have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, so I gotta run around with them. I also enjoy being active, so an Achilles tendon made up of scar tissue doesn’t sound very functional to me.

I guess I’m looking for stories of hope. Did anyone have an old injury that was able to be repaired? Anyone have surgery while pregnant? Or surgery soon after giving birth? I’m so miserable right now and it feels like there is no hope in sight.
