Worried about background check in Australia
Hi everyone,
I’m 2-30 yrs old woman from Europe and currently looking for work in Australia and recently started onboarding for a project-based position. I have already provided my visa/work rights documents and I also completed a third-party background check consent form.
The consent form mentioned a broad range of possible checks, including criminal history, education, employment history, and driving records. However, the actual online form did not ask me to enter my employment history separately.
What I’m worried about is that I noticed a few date issues on my resume.
In one internship, I actually worked approximately from January to July, but I wrote March to August (even shorter 🤦♀️) on my resume. So it was not an attempt to exaggerate the experience. The months were just shifted incorrectly.
My biggest concern is an older job from a few years ago at a very small local grocery shop in Europe(My home country). It was an informal cash-paid job, and I don’t think the employer would be able or willing to provide formal verification.(I even couldnt find her contact) This experience is not part of my main professional work history; I included it mainly to show communication skill. I’m still worried because the period listed on my resume is fairly long(like over 2 years) (Maybe I can find a picture or something.. but there is literally no evidence!!!! beside that.. and even the store has closed wth)
For those who have gone through background checks in Australia, I’d really appreciate your advice.
Do companies usually verify every job listed on a resume? Do they also check older casual jobs?
I’m not trying to hide anything, and if I’m asked, I’m willing to clarify the dates or explain the situation. I’m just trying to understand how these things are usually handled in practice.
Thank you.
