A list of every adopt me scam iv seen: all in one post
I've been seeing a major increase in scam posts lately, Aswell as in adopt me in general... there have been plenty of people to make posts about said scams before but I have yet to see them all listed in one post... so I decided to make it myself as someone who has 1800+ hours on the game! I will constantly update this if I ever find more as well (feel free to comment any others to add)... furthermore!-
1. Joining a group to get a free pet
This is the type of scammer you see everywhere now, they will direct you to YouTube claiming there's a link to their Roblox group, and if you join you get a "free pet"... In reality its a fake link so DO NOT CLICK IT nor give it you're information
2. Helping create a video
Much like the last one people will direct you to YouTube, usually without even the right user shown in the video or sketchy stats--this will build fake trust as they will then try to trust trade you. Having you give your pets to "show there viewers" (excuse varies) and that in 5 seconds you'll get them back with rewards... you wont. Don't do it. Iv seen this include fake links before like the former scam too--never click links, they'll come up a bit in this post I'm sure.
3. Free art
This is the one I actually almost fell for. Someone will trade you and compliment your avatar claiming that they'll make an artwork of it for free. Iv seen people give "Proofs" of the art through Instagram or other socials, they may look pretty (All iv seen are 3d models) but don't do it. They will ask you to give a link/image thing to you're Roblox avatar model to input into the program--by doing this how they show it actually also gives them your site cookies... which means they get access to your account as their device will be seen as "trusted" (From what iv heard it even bypasses 2FA)
4. Boosting
When someone says they are boosting pets it means they are having you trade them your pets, which you'll get back with an even better add and extra rewards. This results in them just stealing said pets. In addition, sometimes the scammer will be in a live to supposedly build trust--this is false too. It'll kick you out, look like things go through on their end, so on (so iv heard)--just don't do it.
5. Spin the wheel
It's literally boosting except you give them a pet and they'll spin a wheel... if its a loose you supposedly get your pet back and if its a win you get extra rewards--this is functionally the same as boosting, the same thing applies as what I said there.
6. Example: "Trading frost for peacock!" and "Trading peacock" (same server, diff people)
This is usually just someone on their alt trying to get a massive overpay, if you give something decent enough in their eyes the "frost" (in the example) person wouldn't do the trade or they both may leave all together.
7. "Can I pay X amount of robux for your pet? I'll go first!"
Usually these people offer way to much robux for what the pets worth in the first place, secondly they usually don't take you to the proper please donate game and instead bring you to a fake one owned by them. (Please donate the game I see suggested by said scammers). You will not get the robux and your pet will just get stolen, they just say "I'll go first" to build false trust.
8. People that have links to their "main" in their Bio
This is most seen from trading sites, the catch is much like with the "joining a community" scam its a fake site that takes your log in info. While most links have something obviously wrong with them like spelling or extra information, even if it appears correct don't do it--someone can just tell you their user. Saving a button press is not worse the risk EVER.
9. QR code to friend someone
This is the same as the last one, do not scan QR codes to supposedly friend someone... it'll steal your information. If someone's legit they will just tell you their username to look up yourself, no links nor extra steps.
10. "Borrowing" a pet
Alright, we are getting into the nicher scams now... but I said I'd include all of them I know. While I barely see this one if ever--there are some people who ask to borrow your pets because they want to know what its like to have it, to add it to their journal, or to take a photo. Obviously don't trade your pets to people they will take them--if they want a photo invite them to your family. (I fell for this once as a child... sigh)
11. Pay X amount of bucks and get a free pet (or other item)
Nowadays this scam isn't very major nor impactful, but if you really care about saving for something some people do "sell" their stuff for bucks. Most of the time they leave the game without giving you your item--though for this one there's also a lot of times they do, just be aware of the risk. If you are happy with risking loosing the money and find it reasonable its up to your discretion as this one doesn't take player data or pets.
12. Pick a door
There used to be a thing where you'd enter a pet to play a game and have a chance at a reward where you'd pick between doors. Usually the person would take the pet without a reward or rig the game--rarely they were genuine, and sometimes this could be played for free, just be aware. (I haven't seen this happen recently tbh)
13. Cross-trading in general
If you are going to cross trade (trade adopt me items for items of other games/robux) and are aware of the risks then do it from the appropriate subreddit and its mods--no discord, no other socials. It may take awhile to get a proper middle man, but its much safer than risking loosing your high value items.
14. Swap outs
If you are trading a high value pet and someone asks you to add some random toys/items make sure to triple check the trade on both windows. Sometimes they initially add an appropriate value pet or overpay and switch it to a normal version while you are distracted. This has been tried on me--if you point it out they just decline. A good rule in general is to make sure the trades how you want it by that second window anyway--don't get excited and auto accept.
15. Neon black scooter
There are 2 items in this game, one being a rather rare neon black scooter with the value of like 225 on elve... and one just being a black scooter with a value of 2 at most. Most people will trade for your higher value pets and offer the ladder sayings its the neon version--Do not do it its a scam. If it does not have "neon" in the name do not accept.
16. Giving a free pet if a friend is in the server
These scammers are ones who offer high tier pets and ask if you have a friend in the server that can "vouche" for you and say you are a good person... as I have not fallen for this scam I do not know it's specifics, I only believe that they make/have an account with a similar display or username to trade you with? Either way, however it goes don't trust it its a scam. (If anyone knows how this goes feel free to let me know and ill update this)
17. Trust trading
This was what came before boosting and spin the wheel: Trade someone your pet and they trade it back as a show of "trust"... what's the perceived benefit to this? Nothing. Its likely why this in itself isn't used anymore. They just steal your pets and move on (Most new scams like 2, 4, and 5 ARE trust trading but with a perceived advantage to doing it)
18. Korean trading servers
On TikTok there is discussions of "Korean trading servers" that tend to get a lot of overpays for cute pets. People lie and say that if you enter some given email into your Roblox account it will give you access to join them--Don't do this. It just adds that email as your backup so they can log into your account and steal your pets.
anyway
That is all I could think of at the moment, I'm sure there might be more--and I'm sure more will come. I will update this list (that I spent an unnecessary amount of time on) as more scams come to my attention! thanks for reading and safe trading!
