This is a Valley Bar Box pool table, and it is by far the most common table you will find in America. It's 7 foot with gigantic pockets. Definitely playing on easy mode. Most often they are coin operated but luckily the place I shoot at yanked the coin mechanism out of their tables.

You can usually find pool halls with 9 foot Brunswick tables with narrower pockets, and often you can find 7 and 9 foot Diamond tables with 4.25 inch pockets.

Table conditions vary wildly, the majority of Valley Bar Boxes have thick shitty cloth that slows the balls down. I'm lucky that the VBB I shoot on has speed cloth that gets changed out annually.

I make a point of going to the pool hall and practicing on the hard tables, but when it comes time to buy a table, it will probably be a VBB because I like playing on easy mode. If I get so good that a VBB is no longer a challenge, then I'll consider a tougher table.

I've played pool in the UK and Italy as well and their tables are both wildly different and were fun to learn on.
