[General Question] How is Computer’s Department of UC Davis

Hi guys,
So I’ve got the admit of UC Davis MSCS (2 years) and I also have UCI MCS (15 months) admit, but looking at the current tech market in US and also the grind which I’ll have to prepare myself for as an international student I’m leaning more towards taking the MSCS program of UC Davis,

I had already asked about UC Davis MSCS and UCI MCS on this sub reddit and also connected with the students of both universities on LinkedIn and from what I’ve heard collectively is that market is pretty bad so it’s better to have some more time and bit of flexibility at your end. That’s why I’m considering UC Davis MSCS program. But what I want to ask is how good is the computer department on the basis of subjects it provides are they better aligned to industry needs, what about the professors and research especially in Computers. I’ve researched and found out it is top notch in life sciences , agriculture, forestry and all that but what about the computer programs.

I’ve asked these questions to the students and it’s good and resources are abundant but it’s more like depends on how you direct yourself and how good you exploit the resources for your betterment. But I’m looking for some better more detailed answers as I can’t find it on net as well

Hi guys
I feel the heading itself is self explanatory for this sub Reddit post. I’ve got the I20 for UCI and yesterday I received mail from UC Davis for MSCS. Now I’ve a bit of confusion between the two. Obviously uci mcs is of 1.5 years and uc Davis is of 2 years.

My goal is to secure internship and try converting that to a placement offer and work in the states. I have 2 years of work experience as an SDE in India (I’m an international student) in a start-up.

As far as I’ve researched and checked out uc Irvine’s computer department has been doing really good and is gaining momentum. It does have a good pipeline for jobs and internships but on the other hand uc Davis is offering the program for 2 years which gives me more time to look for jobs and internships

Hi guys ,
I just received an admit from UCI for MCS program for Fall 2026. They have also rolled out my I 20 for the same. I am an international student working in a startup with 2 years of experience as a SDE. I really am excited to join the university and work with people and have that US experience as well. However, looking at the current job market with so much layoffs and job cuts happening due to AI. This kind of makes me skeptical about how job opportunity will turn out to be.

Anyone currently going through the same situation right now in UCI. I would love to hear your experience as being an on ground person who can actually show the reality. It will really help me understand my decision as well

Thank you.
