Is there any language to describe ignorance which is not ableist? [ racism mention ]
Hi all, me again :)
I was thinking to myself about how bigotry is both harmful and truly “stupid”. White supremacy, for example, relies on people believing (or claiming to believe) blatantly false “science” which was invented out of thin air solely to oppress people of colour.
I think most systems of oppression rely on false facts and “ignorance”, because inequality is inherent “ignorant”. It ignores basic truths and distorts facts into harmful lies.
I realised that this language (“stupid”) might be wrong. It seems silly to stress that bigotry is wrong while using bigoted terms. Or perhaps I’m overthinking? I’m not sure.
I wondered if any other disabled people - particularly people with learning or intellectual disabilities- could offer me some guidance here?
