DoorDash out of area bait and switch

I was door dashing on Saturday, and I accepted a 2 part delivery offer to pick up a floral arrangement near to my location and then do a quick grocery shop near the recipient's house (about 20 miles away). The payout was $35, so I figured that would make up for my driving out of the busy zones for a little while. As I was getting closer to the little mountain town where I would be doing the shop and delivering the flowers, I received a notice that the grocery shop portion was canceled, and I would only need to deliver the flowers. It cut the pay by almost half, making this something I would not have chosen if it were offered to me initially. I felt like the customer did this intentionally to have to accept it and then have to deliver the flowers because I had already picked them up, but I wasn't absolutely sure that perhaps DoorDash may have done it to bait me into accepting the offer. Does this happen a lot?
