To be clear, we are NOT seeking health advice but advice on what questions to ask our leasing office and also seeking answers on what the process of a professional evaluation looks like. I mentioned my boyfriend‘s health issues, but I am not in any way seeking advice for those health issues per the rules of this subreddit.
Last week, we found mold on both our apartment windowsills that was black and pink. Maintenance wiped it away and called it “dirt.” We insisted on a third-party evaluation, and the leasing office agreed to it, but said if they don’t find mold, we will have to pay for it.
I need some answers to my questions and I also need to know what questions to ask the leasing office.
- Do the people who search for the mold usually also evaluate the windows
for moisture issues
- ?
Our are very old.
- Or is that a different professional
than who looks for mold
- ? Should we
insist on
- a professional with a specific specialty that understands both
mold and windows, if such a specialty exists?
- If maintenance wiped away the mold,
will
- a professional still be able to find any issues?
- How much does it usually cost if they are unable to find the mold that was wiped away as part of this office’s cover-up?
Per the rules, I’m not seeking advice on this part, but I am providing context. My partner has been experiencing severe health issues that only begin when he enters the apartment. He’s had multiple sinus infection infections, coughs every night, has been on three different antibiotics and three different allergy medication medications. His symptoms did improve after maintenance swiped away most of the mold, but we’re still concerned that the underlying cause with the windows hasn’t been addressed. We only found the mold because we couldn’t find any other explanation for his symptoms and finally looked everywhere in the apartment and discovered all the mold on the windowsills.
We insisted that communication with the leasing office happen over writing.
Is there anything we need to ask the leasing office specifically now that we are at the stage of them agreeing to get a professional evaluation?
We live in Scottsdale, Arizona, at an old apartment complex.
