How to move forward after making a major mistake at work

I 30f made a serious mistake that I only recently discovered. About a month ago, I booked the wrong payee on a transaction. The payment was supposed to be a refund to the insurance company, but I accidentally issued the refund to the patient instead. The transaction was approved, the payment cleared, and the check worth $15,000 was already cashed.
When I realized what happened, I had a panic attack and immediately informed my boss. I was crying the entire time because I didn’t know what to do. He told me Im fired. I was so overwhelmed and ashamed that I didn’t show up to work the next day because I couldn’t face anyone. I feel like everyone is talking about me in the office. I feel completely devastated right now.
