Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here can help me understand the charging behavior of my Volvo XC90 T8 (2026).
In my apartment building’s underground garage, the property management had an electrician install a standard household outlet connected to my own electricity meter. According to the electrician, it’s a Swiss T23 socket (16A / 230V, ~3 kW).
Based on that, I expected a charging time of around 7–8 hours for a full charge. However, in reality, it consistently takes almost exactly 12 hours.
Does anyone know where this discrepancy might come from?
A few things I’m wondering:
Is the car limiting the charging current (e.g., not actually pulling the full 16A)?
Are there typical losses or inefficiencies that would explain such a big difference?
Could voltage drop or installation factors in a garage setup reduce effective power?
Is there any way to safely increase the charging speed with this setup?
Appreciate any insights or similar experiences!
