I’m making this post to warn you: DO NOT update your Tour One M3 to the latest firmware version (4.8.0).
As you might know, for their 80th anniversary, JBL decided to drastically change the sound signature of these headphones to align them with the Harman Curve. According to the update notes, this is supposed to provide a "more balanced" experience, improve control, and add clarity to mids and highs.
The reality is a disaster:
- Total loss of bass: The punchy low-end that defined these headphones has almost completely disappeared.
- Piercing highs: The treble is now extremely sharp and "screechy," making them fatiguing to listen to after just a few minutes.
- Thin sound: Overall, the audio feels hollow and lacks the "soul" and energy it had before.
If you enjoy the classic, fun JBL sound signature, stay on your current version. Once you update, there is no official way to roll back, and the headphones lose what made them great in the first place.
