Please forgive me if this isn’t allowed on the subreddit, however I’d love more prospective as It’s been weighing on me for quite awhile.
I am an urban inuk, I haven’t gotten many teachings as I’m adopted but I’m always looking to learn more.
Recently I’ve had a person in my life (non Inuit) who has been making seal skin related items. She’s copied some items from an inuk artist I deeply admire whilst having zero teachings about seal skin or Inuit culture. I’d like to tell her that it’s disrespectful to copy designs (for workshops and personal use) but since I don’t have the teachings myself I feel hesitant on calling her out.
I’d like to be as constructive as possible but this is a pattern with her and I can’t help but feel like she’s actively disregarding the respect factor of creating.
UPDATE :
I couldn’t get across to her and she tried to gift me one of her replicas. I rejected the gift and bought the only authentic original from the original creator. It felt incredibly good to turn the gift away, and it’ll feel even better to be the only one who owns the authentic one. Thank you for all the comments and advice. My anger has been calmed, creator will handle her bad ethics from here.
