"Girl" AND "Female being"???

Okay, so... "female being" uses "female" as an adjective, not as a noun, which normally doesn't qualify for this subreddit. That's true. But -- I think saying "female being" is still weirdly dehumanizing/objectifying, and especially when it could easily just be "woman". It at least has "females" energy.

A new low: Dude is calling us "girls" by using the "girl" (👧) emoji

We don't even deserve the respect of being referred to as a damn word in his mind, we're just an emoji, and the damn "girl" emoji for that matter. 😭 I find that incredibly gross considering the context of Epstein.

Also, what the fuck?

This reel was posted by a pregnant woman lightheartedly showing her husband's response to her sleeping position.

To be clear, since this was posted by the pregnant woman herself, this pinned comment was likely a pin of shame, not pinned out of agreement. The man took so much heat for this (over 4k comments!) that he eventually deleted the comment. He dished out the heat but couldn't take it himself.

The top comment on the post was "The pinned comment is horrendous" which received 67k likes.

I'm tired of seeing "Wrong sub" comments in response to posts showcasing anything beyond "men/females". This subreddit showcases dehumanizing language in general.

I understand the confusion to an extent, given the subreddit's name. But the purpose of this subreddit is to showcase the sexism ingrained into everyday language, the subtle dehumanizations aimed at women. This is usually "men/females", but it can also include:

  1. "Men and girls", or "No men, just girls" -- Calling adult women by a term meant to describe children is infantalizing on its own. When paired with "men", it also puts men on a pedestal above women, just like "men and females". The only time "girls" is acceptable to use and does not qualify for this subreddit is when children are being referenced (or when paired with "guys" for reasons stated in the rules). When adults are referred to as "girls", that's dehumanizing.

  2. "No men, just females" -- Calling women "females" is still dehumanizing and still likening them to animals even when not paired with "men". The only time "females" does not qualify is when it is paired with "males", because it's clear that the commenter is not putting men on a pedestal above women in that instance. But it isn't known how somebody would refer to men when it's just "females" being used on its own.

  3. "Bitch" -- I really should not have to explain why referring to women as "bitches" is dehumanizing. I would go as far as to call the word a slur against women. It is disgusting, it is dehumanizing, and it fits the subreddit.

  4. "Foid -- "Foid" is an incel term that means "female humanoid" or "female android". It refers to us as less than human. It counts.

  5. "Others" -- As stated, this subreddit showcases dehumanizing language aimed at women in general. I've seen posts here where women were referred to as "toilets" for instance. I once posted a man who referred to a woman as "A female piece of meat" (Note that the word 'female' was used as an adjective, which normally does not count for this subreddit because "female" as an adjective is just how English grammar works, but it was still incredibly dehumanizing which is why I posted it here). If the term/phrase dehumanizes women, and/or puts men on a pedestal above them, it counts.

Also, every point above has a corresponding post flair. 1 and 2 are both post flairs exactly, 3 corresponds to "Would you prefer 'bitch'"?, and 4 and 5 correspond to the "Foids/other" flair. This subreddit does not have custom flairs either. So if you're confused as to whether or not a post belongs here, read the post flair, and that should tell you if it does or does not the majority of the time.

I made this post because I have seen a huge uptick in comments stating "This doesn't belong here" on posts showcasing "girls" especially, though sometimes on other posts like "no men, just females". And I want it known to more people that this subreddit is not just about "men/females". It is showcasing how ingrained sexism is in every day language, that women are constantly dehumanized, because this language often goes unnoticed or not called out.

I'm going swimming soon, so I was trying to find information on how easily I could wear men's swim clothes as a cis woman (taking into consideration the differing fits). And this reddit post came up in my google search. 🫠

And I know a lot of people are quick to point out that "Women don't call themselves females, that's clearly a dude" whenever a woman gets posted here saying "females". Context is relevant; sometimes it's very obviously a cis man posing as a woman and calling himself and women "females". But the OP here isn't speaking with the verbiage that I would expect a cis man posing as a woman to use. She sounds like a woman with some unfortunate internalized misogyny. I have heard women irl call themselves females, it does sadly happen.

So... a couple of things.

  1. This is technically "females and girls", but I honest to god cannot figure out if the study is referring to girls as in children (proper usage of the term which does not count for this subreddit) or girls as in adults (which would count for the subreddit).

  2. Many may point out that "female is appropriate verbiage when doing a medical study", but here's the thing: They also refer to people as "girls", women", and "fathers", rather than as "males and females". Since not all language was medical and clinical, I think this counts.

  3. Just what in the actual fuck is this shit? How is this even a study? It is so weird, disgusting, dehumanizing, vomit-inducing, strangely pedophilic and incestuous, I just cannot.
