Hey everyone! I just bought an Elgato 4K S Capture Card a few weeks ago. Everything is working pretty much as expected except for the HDR passthrough when I connect the capture card to my Switch 2.
This issue is only happening when I have HDR enabled on the Switch 2 and only affects the passthrough that I can actually see on my monitor. I can record in SDR / HDR via Elgato Studio and OBS just fine. This really is just affecting the passthrough which has been bothering me since I want to record in HDR while playing through passthrough.
I already tried the following:
- Switching resolutions on the Switch 2:
- 1080p and 4K both have the same Problem
- Switching Input EDID mode:
- All 3 options "Display", "Internal" and "Merged" resolut in the Pink Screen Issue.
- Match HDMI Color Range on Switch and Elgato Studio
- I tried pretty much every combination here and nothing changed unfortunately
- I tried connecting my MacBook instead of the Switch 2:
- After connecting my MacBook and setting it up to output 1440p Video at 120Hz and HDR the passthrough started working perfectly.
- This should mean that this is atleast not a cable or capture card hardware problem, right?
- After connecting my MacBook and setting it up to output 1440p Video at 120Hz and HDR the passthrough started working perfectly.
Is this a problem with the Elgato Capture Card Software?
From my tests and the images above I think this is an issue with the communication between capture card and Switch 2. Unfortunately the Switch 2 does not offer many options when it comes to settings color space etc.
When I connect my Switch to my monitor without the capture card in the middle the HDR works just fine.
In the images above you can see that when I have the capture card connected to my MacBook, Elgato Studio specifically says that the HDMI OUT is in HDR. It does not say that when it is connected to the Switch.
Is there a known fix for this issue? Could this still be a hardware issue?
