Am I doing okay as a cat owner?
I am fifteen years old and I currently am taking care of my first ever cat, he is about 9/10 months old, and I've had him since he was about 2/3 months old, he was rescued as a stray on the side of the road.
He has to stay in my room because my family has a big German Shepherd, and whilst he is not aggressive we do not want to risk something happening as he is an older dog who wasn't raised having cats around. My room is a bigger room and I have a medium size closet which I turned into his little area where his food, water, and litterbox are (they are at opposite ends and his food and water are raised above on a table whilst his litterbox is a hooded one and on the ground because I don't want them to be too close to each other). I keep it open at all times, I put it in there so his food, water, and litterbox can be outside of the main room whilst still being always accessible to him, I don't use it for clothes at all rather use a dresser for that.
I refill his water three times a day or more if I see it empty. I then have dry food always available to him and give him wet food three times a day (they aren't full cans more like half a can). I also scoop his litterbox once a day or every other day, and change out the full thing every two weeks.
I do online school so I am able to be with him majority of the time, which is good because he really doesn't like being alone at all so I am glad I can be there. I play with him multiple times a day, although I don't force myself to do it because it just naturally happens because he comes up to me wanting to play.
I do also have to leave my ceiling fan constantly running because if I ever turn it off he starts meowing and staring at it until I turn it back on, I don't know why he needs me to do this but I will do it because he wants me to.
I really really love him and I really care about making everything safe for him, I got cord protectors for my computer because he likes to chew on the wires and I really don't want him to accidentally hurt himself. It's getting hotter outside but I was able to recently get an air conditioner so I will be able to keep him cool especially in the Summer.
I just want to know if I am doing okay with him because he is my first cat, and pet in general that has been my sole responsibility and I am trying my very best, and if there is any advice anyone could give me I would really appreciate it because I want him to be happy and healthy.
