Over the past 6 months or a year our bathtub has been peeling in the corners where water sits or things rest. The coating on the tub has probably been our biggest complaint since moving in. The paint is rough all over (we had to use a bath pillow for the first year any time we wanted to soak) and really likes to hold onto a stain.
Now we're at an impasse - we could have our apartments pay to bring someone in to do the recoating, but my partner works 90 hour weeks right now, I work from home, and we have a cat, so the fumes and possibly needing to stay somewhere while it aired out might be an issue.
So my question is: is the coating necessary? The surface underneath seems to be fairly shiny, smooth, and new, and I'm wondering if it couldn't function as the outer surface.
There's probably a reason that isn't possible, but I'm out of my depth here so let me know!
