Hello to the community! This is my first post so bear with me.

The question: I need access control of my photos/videos somehow between 3-4 users of immich. I can only think of implementing this using tags but let me explain.

The facts
I am filming a lot of events in my family life but i also have some personal photos with friends and other moments of my life before marriage (yes there was life before that!).

The technicals

I have installed Immich on premise in my ubuntu server as a docker currently connected to my NAS. The shares are NFS shares mounted to Immich using the stack of the docker container.

Currently, all the media is located in a folder in NAS, with subfolders per year and each year subfolders for each month. That way no matter what you use you always know the timeline.

The problem

  • I want to be able to see all my photos
  • I want my wife to see only the family photos
  • I want my parents and in-laws to see my family media EXCEPT for my personal moments with my wife e.g. trips we went as singles, the birth of our children etc and also to prevent them from seeing my personal photos.

Inspired by Jellyfin, I liked the idea of creating a user and prohibiting him to view media of a certain tag. I could use digiKam to mass tag many files easily (we are talking 3.5K videos and 28K photos). That way, parents and in-laws won't see the private tags (moments with wife) and also wife won't see the personal tags (moments of me with friends in the past). Isn't that a good idea? What are you thinking? Is there an external maybe way to implement this?

I am not willing to change the subfolder structure; find each private or personal moment and separate it into a different folder.

Thank you all
