I’m a flight attendant. My surgeon said because of my age (28F) he wants to be really aggressive with recovery treatment and get me back to work in 3 months.
I explained my job requirements, my most concerning one being pushing a 250-300lbs cart up and down a narrow aisle on an incline with possible turbulence with gravity force IN HEELS multiple times a day. He dismissed me and said I would be fine and we can adjust the recovery time as needed.
I told the disability company 4 months and he said he would be comfortable with that and sign off on it. Am I crazy? I feel like because I’m not in high level sports, he’s not taking the physical aspect of my job seriously. Those carts are HEAVY, not to mention lifting my suitcase overhead 5+ times a day. Lots of twisting, turning, squatting, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing (I’m short I have to climb the seats to check emergency equipment), etc.
Is 4 months enough?? I’ve had this pain since 2018, so I’m sure physical therapy and relearning my gait will be a slight challenge. I’m so nervous I won’t be recovered and really mess my hip up on the job.
EDIT: I brought my surgeon the official company’s job duties list to look over and he wouldn’t read it.
