I was recently rejected for a checking account. I was told it was because of something in my Chex report. I received a copy of my chex report and it was empty. I did see in the report this bank (m&t) was sent a copy of my chex info so the report is definitely up to date.
l've since done a total scouring of everything possible related to my credit/financial history and have not found anything that should disqualify me from opening a checking account. I have tried talking to multiple people at the bank to find out to find out exactly why I was rejected and I keep getting told I need to talk to chex because they just go off of what chex says and if chex says they should'nt open an account they can't open it. But every time I speak to somebody at chex they say they just send information to the bank and I need to find out from the bank why I was rejected.
Does anybody know whether the bank or chex people are right? Since all this, i was able to open a checking account at a bank I already had a savings account at with no issues, so I don't really care about opening the checking account but I would like to know why I was rejected in the first place.
