Just had the weirdest design school interview ever 😭

Instead of talking about my portfolio, projects, or literally anything design-related, the interview got completely stuck on why I’m not pursuing my sport professionally anymore. I kept explaining that my priorities have changed and that I genuinely see myself in design more, but it felt like they just could not process the idea of someone choosing a creative field over a sport they were already successful in.

The most frustrating part was feeling like I was only being seen as “the athlete” and not as an actual creative person with interests beyond that. I’m still proud of my sports background and I’m not even fully giving it up, I just don’t want it to be the ONLY thing people see me as forever 😭

At one point they even started suggesting sports management careers to me and I was just sitting there thinking… this is a DESIGN SCHOOL interview 😭 Like I came here to talk about my creative work, not get convinced to stay in the sports industry forever.

Every answer somehow looped back to the sport again and it honestly started feeling like the interviewers wanted me to go “yeah you’re right maybe I should just continue the sport only” 💀

Has anyone else had interviews where one part of your identity completely overshadowed everything else you actually wanted to talk about?
