I was really tired the day of testing, I was desperate for sleep and was taking a nap waiting to be hooked up for the study I had had a good amount of sleep leading up to the sleep study. I have adhd and take stim meds, my Dr and i decided that i wouldn't take them the day of the sleep study even though it didn't matter as much for this one.
So I fell asleep fast and slept through until I was forced awake at 6.30 am. I struggled to wake and was just so sleep drunk. My dr said i had a good amount of sleep of 7.5 hours and showed no signs of sleep apnea. I had several REM episodes He noted that I woke a lot very briefly and said that maybe why I feel that i have vivid dreams but it's more that I am just remembering them due to slight waking.
I was told that I my blood test was negative so I cant have cataplexy he agreed that i had what sounded like cataplexy on my initial visit. He said the likely hood of me having narcolepsy with a negative blood test was not likely. He said it's more likely or could be, idiopathic hypersomnia
He prescribed me Modafinil 100mg to take along side my adhd stimulant medication as he feels that it will help and he was going to book me in for the MSLT and i will need to be off my stim meds for 2 weeks even though they are fast release.
I came away I feeing like I made all of it up in my head now. I was careful to be as clear and honest as possible. In my first appointment he said it sounded like I was experiencing cataplexy and indeed narcolepsy and fast tracked me due to risks. I can't help feeling ashamed like I am a liar.
I'm just not sure if there is any point doing the MSLT now due to the negative blood test and the first sleep study being unremarkable.
