Avoid 1800 Accountant — full scope agreed in writing, all docs uploaded by February, told one day before deadline they couldn't file

A Complete Failure of Service — Avoid at All Costs

⭐ (1 star, only because zero isn't an option)

I cannot recommend this firm to anyone for anything. Whether it's tax filings, bookkeeping, advisory services, or basic customer support — they failed at every level. My experience was so disappointing and so poorly handled that I feel a responsibility to warn others before they make the same mistake I did.

From my very first phone call, I was crystal clear about my needs: multi-jurisdiction tax filings, both as an individual and for my business entity. I repeated the full scope on a follow-up call two weeks later and sent a written message that same day explicitly clarifying every jurisdiction involved and the source of that income. On the day I signed the contract, I also submitted my prior year's returns, which already included filings for every jurisdiction discussed. The scope of the engagement could not have been more obvious.

By mid-February — well ahead of the filing deadline — I had uploaded every single document they could possibly need. Tax forms reflecting income from each jurisdiction, detailed income and expense tables, supporting financial records, property-related documentation, and multiple verbal and written confirmations summarizing what had been submitted. After uploading everything, I went a step further and scheduled a dedicated meeting with my assigned accountant to walk through every document, explain the full picture, answer any questions on the spot, and make clear I was fully available to answer any additional questions going forward. There was no missing paperwork. There was no ambiguity. There was no excuse for them not to understand exactly what was needed. Everything they needed had been in their hands — and explained to them directly — two full months before the deadline.

And yet, two days before the filing deadline, I was told there was "no indication" of income from one of the jurisdictions I had been discussing since day one — a jurisdiction supported by multiple documents already uploaded and explained months earlier. That statement was flatly untrue and contradicted everything I had submitted and every conversation we'd had. One day before the deadline, I was told the firm couldn't handle that filing at all — directly contradicting the contract I signed and everything that had been communicated from the very first call.

This is not a minor oversight. The missed filing also had downstream implications for my federal return that they failed to address. Their failure didn't just leave one return undone — it compromised the entire filing package, on the eve of the deadline, leaving me scrambling.

The customer service experience after the fact was just as bad. I spent over an hour on hold with no answer. Promised callbacks didn't come. Escalations went nowhere. It took weeks of follow-up emails and multiple case numbers before the matter was finally resolved.

If you need a firm you can actually rely on — for taxes, for your business, for anything — look elsewhere. This firm is bad at all of it. I will never use them again, and I will never recommend them to anyone. Save yourself the stress and the last-minute scramble.
