Recently picked up my first aluminum jon/utility boat. 1982 grumann 4.4. I currently removed the transom as it was replaced with a 2x6 that was cut in half to get it in.

I'm trying to decide wether to go aluminum or 3/4 marine ply wood for the transom. I have access to a fabrication shop so they would be roughly within $100 of materials. I plan on putting a jack plate on the back.

Is the aluminum transom worth the extra cost? Does it increase vibrations significantly over wood?
