Release of liability form

Hi, Im entolling my kid in a new preschool and they gave me a form for release of liability in case of an accident. Ive never seen something like this before. Can the preschool ask parents to sign a release of liability? Like oh if something happens to your kid we are not responsible? Is this a thing? Im in California

Scripting

My 3 year old level 2 scripts a lot. Books, movies, whatever she enjoyed watching or listening to. Its a part of what goes on here everyday and I feel like her preschool teachers also got used to it. But family gathering get awkward when she says something and people are looking at me(mom) to help them understand what she is talking about. She scripts more at gatherings because too many people=overstimulated and just pretending she is fine but I know she is not - the whole thing is too much for her. What do you guys do when your kiddos script? I usually acknowledge and say yeah or if its from a book i say the next part. But when in front of others I also get uncomfortable and awkward. I have not shared her diagnosis with anyone so I guess they are confused on what she is talking about? She does use some functional language in those situations but only with me. With others its just scripting.
