Akron Spring Start
I received my A from Akron Law a couple of weeks ago, but they reached out saying that their fall class was already full. They said I could remain on the admitted students waitlist (which they say is different from their normal waitlist) and choose between two options: get priority admission into the Spring start class or the part-time program. I responded saying I would prefer the Spring Full-Time option, since the part-time program you have to complete two full semesters before switching to Full-Time.
I want to know if anyone else received these options as it feels pretty odd. As someone who’s putting reducing debt at the top of their list of priorities when choosing a law school, Akron was my top choice because I could live at home. When I got the email saying my options, they reached out saying I would get the scholarship decisions the following week. It’s now 2 1/2 weeks after that and I reached back out asking for a timeline with scholarship decisions, and they responded that scholarship decisions wouldn’t be out until mid June.
I’m not entirely sure what to do about this as mid June would be after seat deposits would be due for the other two schools I was accepted into: ONU and Toledo. Toledo didn’t offer me any aid or scholarships so I immediately wrote that off as an option, but ONU gave me an 85% scholarship. The problem with ONU is that even with the money given to me, since I don’t know anyone in the area I would have to find an apartment by myself and that puts the school right back into the unaffordable category. Plus, ONU has the worst bar passage rate in the entire state of Ohio by 30% and the 2nd worse job placement rate according to LawHub. This means ONU was going to be a last option, but what if I don’t put in the last deposit and then Akron doesn’t give me any money? Has anyone else had this issue with Akron? What would you do in my position?
This would be much easier if the last three schools I applied to (3/24) would get back to me: CSU, Capital, and Dayton.
