LA same rent prices as northern NJ…?

Everyone and their mother in NJ has been saying the same old “you’re moving to LA? Do you know how EXPENSIVE it is?” So I was expecting Manhattan rent. But I’m seeing many rental options in a variety of areas at $2,600 for a one bedroom apartment, which is exactly the average rent in my area of NJ. They’re slightly smaller in square footage, but nearly the same. Am I missing something, other than maybe higher costs elsewhere like gas?

Friend doesn’t check up at all, is it dead?

I’m 30 and only have one person in my life, other than my partner, that I consider a friend. We’ve been best friends since high school.

Ever since I got into grad school, a huge dream for me, he hasn’t asked me once about how school is going. He acts like it doesn’t exist when it’s the most consuming part of my life, and he knows that. I’m sensing jealousy from his silence, and that’s really upsetting. I’m 2 years in and I graduate next year. He doesn’t seem to care at all. When he was finishing up his bachelor’s I was checking in with him all the time, excited about his future.

He told me in the past that he was jealous that I graduated from college before him. In high school, he was the academic over achiever. I didn’t care about academics back then.

I’ve always rooted for him. I’m questioning whether I want this person in my life at all anymore. Is the friendship dead?

I walked out of that exam so confidently. Best exam I’ve done. About 10 minutes later the realization hit. How? When I knew going in how many there were? I don’t fucking know. It’s like getting to the airport and realizing you forgot your passport and it’s too late to retrieve it. Went from thinking I had an A+ exam to I’d be lucky if I pull a B-.

I’m a 2L btw. What the fuck is wrong with me. Seriously.

I’m a 2L at a NYC law school and have decided I want to take the CA bar exam. Born and raised in NY with no material ties to CA, but moving to CA is something I always envisioned, I originally thought I would work in NYC for a few years and then pivot to CA, but I only planned to do that because it felt like the “safe” option. It’s not what I truly want. With that said, I’m going to go for it. I’m a non-traditional law student. I don’t go to a top law school, but I’ve done well in law school and have a decent resume.

Has anyone who has done this have any advice? Is it much more difficult to find a job? I plan to look for jobs in the LA area, definitely in Southern California.
