What to check before accepting a bike

Hi, I've ordered a bike and will pick it up at a bike store. The shop is quite a reputable place and I trust Cube so I'm not too worried but still want to make sure I do my diligence so I won't have any surprises on the way home.

I'm guessing a visual inspection from head to toe, i.e. wheels to frame would be a first step, for any marks or dents (esp. bc it's a carbon frame). Plus a test ride to get a feel of how shifting and the brakes work. In your opinion/experience what else would be important to check before signing off on it?

Thanks!

Pls help determine Nulane C62 SLX switch type

According to Cube's website, the Nulane C62 SLX model has

  • Switchgear: Shimano Cues RD-U8000, 11-Speed
  • Shift lever: Shimano Cues SL-U6000, Rapidfire Plus

https://www.cube.eu/de-de/cube-nulane-c-62-slx-electricblue-n-blue/156400

Now, what I'm trying to figure out is how does one actually shift gears, is it by pulling levers or clicking up/down buttons? None of the photos on the site are detailed enough, and I tried to google it of course but these components are awfully cryptic for someone with not a lot of knowledge about bikes... ^^ Also they come in a myriad of versions so I'm completely lost.

I'm following Greg's 10k plan on my Venu 3S. Some trainings have a pace range goal and there is this super annoying vibration and sound alert every single time I go 0.00001s below or above the target pace, and, funnily enough, even when I'm right in the middle. It's incredibly annoying and ruins the whole run, causing stress instead of being helpful.

I did some research and it looks like the only option is to turn off vibration and sound alerts in system settings. But that's not exactly what I want to do, bc I find them helpful when I need them - end of warm up, for example, or for the stride repeats trainings. It's just this pace alert that makes me want to throw my watch in the canal.

Hoping against hope - has anyone found a way to deal with this?

So I never meant to spend this much on a bike... I had my eyes on a 4 initially. But I went to a Trek shop today and things changed a bit. I rode a 3 and a 6 bc that's what they had at hand.

Honestly I could forgo the sleek carbon frame and incredibly cool colour but the electronic shifting is just mind blowing. There was a quieter back street to test ride on and I took a few turns to compare them. It's just day and night. With the electronic switch I felt I got to the desired gear so much faster - whereas with the mechanical one I was fumbling for the front and back handle to go up and down. With the E it's just a quick click and you're instantly feeling the grip, without even thinking about it - feels so much safer in a city environment. This really is the deciding factor for me but I'm still in agony over the price - am I crazy to spend this much on a fitness bike?

I'm planning to ride it as much as I can, my main goal with getting a bike is to have a second sport to complement running. It will have to serve city purposes as well like commute and carrying stuff from time to time as I don't have the space - and now the budget, either, haha - for a second bike.

Would love to hear opinions... Is the mechanical switching just a matter of getting used to or is this a "buy once cry once" decision that I'll thank myself for later on? Help :)

I'd like to buy a bike and I have my eyes on a Canyon Roadlite and a Cube Nulane Race. I prefer the Cube because it comes with a trapeze frame as well, afaik it's the only one in this category (sporty fitness/hybrid bike that's also good for the city, flat handle bars, under 12kg).

Long story short, I have two options, order the Canyon without trying (they don't have it in their test ride list) and hope for the best or order the Cube also without trying since they don't seem to have it anywhere, only for pre-order with zero guarantee on WHEN it will be shipped. I'm now reading a million of these posts for other models as well, I thought I was just unlucky and also in a worse situation because of the trapeze frame.

Ofc with both models I'm freaking out about the not being able to try part. I don't want the hassle of returns and refunds if something doesn't work or doesn't fit... I'm planning to go to a huge Cube store tomorrow to at least try whatever they have available, maybe there's something similar that could give me an idea how the Nulane Race would fit, or explore other options. But I'm kinda keen on this specific model because this is the only one that checks all the boxes. The Canyon Roadlite is also great but I'm a bit worried that the high frame might be a problem in the city where you kinda have to stop more frequently for lights etc.

What is your experience with buying Cube? Did you have a model in mind when you went to the store and did they have it ready, or did you go to the store for advice and bought whatever was in stock? If you pre-ordered, was the wait time reasonable or unacceptable? (Blows my mind that they don't even give an ETA, tbh...)
