Beware iKamper

Not sure if this post is allowed or not, but I’m going to post it anyway.

I’ve owned multiple rooftop tents from other manufacturers and loved them. After buying a sweet 10,000 mil ORP, I wanted to get a super sweet RTT and roof rack (Sherpa, it’s fucking awesome).

A little over a week ago I purchased an iKamper Skycamp 3.0 and was very excited to test it out during a 2 week long camping trip I have coming up. When I purchased I was told they would be delivering the tent in one week, which they only missed by two days, no complaint there.

When the tent arrived, it had a huge hole in the side of the cardboard and a massive dent in the underside of the tent. The delivery company admitted fault and owned up to the mistake. Again, no worries there, shit happens.

I reached out to iKamper to start the process of having the damaged tent replaced with a new undamaged version, like I was expecting when paying over $4,500 for it. I was hopeful that I could pay for expedited shipping to ensure the new RTT would arrive in time for me to install it and take it on my camping trip.

First off, I had extreme difficulty getting ahold of anyone at iKamper. They don’t have a phone number, one is listed online but when you call it just immediately hangs up, I tried multiple times. I didn’t let that deter me.

I then went to their website and pulled up the live chat, where I was greeted by an AI chatbot. I requested to speak to a human representative and it acted as if it was putting me through to one. I sat there for over an hour, no one came into the chat.

Next I started emailing the customer service representative whose email I had from a previous conversation regarding shipping. No answer from her. I then emailed their actual shipping department, no answer there. I started getting a little frantic and sent multiple more emails hoping this company would do the right thing and respond.

After an uncomfortably long wait, the customer service representative finally emailed me back. Her response? She told me they could either issue me a $500 partial refund (I paid that much just for shipping) or I could wait a minimum of 3 weeks for them to ship me a new one. 3 weeks for replacement, after the first RTT arrived in 9 days. She told me that the partial refund was a good deal and would ensure I could use my tent on the camping trip I had coming up.

Basically, they were trying to give me a damaged tent, and seemingly slow roll me on replacement so that I would take their laughably ridiculous offer of $500.

Oh yeah, they also told me to submit a shipping damage claim on their website, (must be submitted within 48 hours of delivery, I did it within 12 hours) which I had already done, as well as a damage claim with the delivery company. Both of which I documented with photos and screen recording. I mentioned this to her and asked her to confirm they had received it. No response.

I then asked for a refund so that I could go purchase a RTT elsewhere. She told me that their policy states they do not offer refunds on orders after they are delivered. They delivered me a damaged tent, and are refusing a refund.

She then stopped responding all together. I emailed multiple times and she just will not give me a reply. So now I have to contest the charge with my bank.

I’m incredibly disappointed. iKamper is supposed to be the best in the industry, and they have completely screwed. I still can’t believe it.

TLDR - Bought an iKamper RTT, arrived damaged. Customer support dodged my emails, offered ridiculous, almost offensive resolutions, and then stopped responding all together, leaving me with a $4,500 broken RTT.
