This is the first excerpt from my book, The Kennedys & the Windsors, that tells the story of how JFK Jr. reacted to Princess Diana's death. I thought this quote was particularly poignant:
Not long after Diana’s death, Platon spoke with John about seeing the public mourn the princess so passionately, with such an impressive display of emotion. “I remember saying to him, ‘I wonder if this would ever happen in America,’ ” Platon recalled. John responded, “I doubt it.” But Platon remembered, “When he died, it did happen in America.”
