i lost my cat 3 days ago suddenly. i am on a temporary assignment for work, so she was living with my parents for the time being. they had dropped her off at a boarding facility because they had to go to a funeral out of state. i woke up to a missed call from the boarding facility that she was hypothermic and breathing badly. she was 8 years old and had asthma and took oral steroids. the steroids worsened undetected HCM leading to congestive heart failure. we transferred her to a hospital but within 10 hours of the phone call she had declined so badly we decided to put her down. i booked a flight that afternoon when they said she might not make it through the night. i said goodbye to her over facetime while waiting for my plane to takeoff. she was my first pet and ive never experienced grief like this before. i feel so guilty i wasn’t there and it breaks my heart imagining her feeling scared and abandoned in a foreign place.
