I’ve been in Yangon for around 2 months now. I’m having a great time, no complaints except being in the malls, particularly Myanmar Plaza. If I step one foot in the direction of Nike, Timberland, any electronics kiosk or even a bookstore, the salesmen sprint like it’s the Olympics! I’ve been browsing pants before and I had to tell the salesman to give me 3 feet of space. Even the bookstores, especially Yangon Book Printing, the ladies will stand there as I peruse the back of 30 books. I have never seen anything like it. How could she possibly help me at a bookstore, is she going to tell me the plots to Jack Reacher or the ASOIAF series? I feel so rude telling them to chill but they stand there like servants. It makes me not want to buy anything.
I had so much fun at the Times City outside bazaar before Tingen because the people just let me look at items for a minute before I purchase. Anybody else experiencing this? It could be because I’m a foreigner but I just want to blend in sometimes.
