Women who did a PT, what was your experience like?

Hi everyone,

I 23F am opting for a PT and wanted to hear the experiences of any women who also got a PT and if they ever needed to go back for a TT and if so after how many weeks or years and those who had a PT and never needed to go back.

I have stage 1 PTC on one lobe and since I’m young I’ve been urged to take one lobe out and to give my other lobe a try to figure things out. Idk really but I’m more content with the idea of keeping some of my thyroid and seeing how things go than removing the whole thing and not knowing if there was a chance the other side can be fine alone.

Advice needed please

Hi everyone,

My surgery is in about two weeks and I have the choice to do a PT or a TT. For context I’m 23F and have PTC on the left lobe and a really small cyst on the right (my endo isn’t stressed about this at all though). My endo suggests a PT due to my age and the fact that the cancer is stage 1 (possibly 2) currently.

I’ve scoured the internet up and down from TikTok to this whole subreddit to talking to people irl who have gotten these surgeries to help me make my decision and I’m still stuck.

One day I lean towards a TT to get things over with but other days I lean towards a PT because of the chance that the right lobe does its thing and I won’t need meds and won’t feel as awful and as fatigued and not myself as some people say TT made them feel.

I’d love to hear what you guys would do in this situation or did in your own situations dealing with cancer. Thanks 🥹

Uninsured PT/TT

Hi everyone,

I’m curious if anyone remembers how much they were billed for their PT or TT because I got my surgery fee estimation from a private hospital and I don’t know if it’s a normal amount or a little high. Thanks :)

PT or TT ?

Hi everyone,

I (23F) have recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer that was picked up in a biopsy that was done on the left side of my thyroid because the ultrasound showed I had a solid nodule there. My specialist told me I have the choice to either get a PT or a TT and I have to decide by this Thursday and I’m still in between both.

I feel like I would be more comfortable and in control of my body if I get a PT because the other side of my thyroid can pick up speed and pull it weight. But I’m scared what if the cancer comes back and I’ll need to have another surgery (especially since there’s a small cyst on the right).

On the other hand I’d like to have a TT so it’s just a one and done situation but I fear that it’ll be a drastic change for my body and it might make me mentally unstable as I adjust. Any other people who dealt with this in their 20’s have any recommendations or suggestions ? Thanks

PCOS and thryiodectomy

Hi everyone,

I was curious to hear about any woman’s experience with their PCOS after getting a TT or a PT. I have one scheduled later this month and I was wondering if my PCOS symptoms will change (and if so for the better or worse). While I know it differs person to person I’m curious. Thanks :)

Any women in their 20’s with positive stories ?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently had a biopsy done on a solid nodule that was caught in an ultrasound on the left side of my thyroid and it came back as cancerous. My surgery is scheduled for later this month and I don’t know whether to do a partial thyroidectomy (of only the side with the cancer) or a full one.

My biggest biggest fear is not feeling like myself and facing long term bad mental health after the surgery. I’ve read a mix of positive and negative stories on here but I feel like most just focus on physical recovery and not the mental side of things. I’m super in tuned with my emotions and they fluctuate easily so I feel like if I get a TT I’ll be prone to falling back into depression and anxiety.

If anyone who had a TT or a PT in their 20’s done comment how their mental health was impacted or if it wasn’t. I would love to hear (hopefully) some positive stories to lift up my hopes and to help me make a decision on whether to settle for a PT or a TT. Thanks.
