I like technology and I thought a windshield was as far as motorcycles could go until I discovered electric gloves. What more could anyone ask for? Then I discovered slipper clutches and hey. Who needs brakes on the backroads when you got 300cc of screaming back pressure . Jake braking’ all the way down the mountain is what real riders do. That was in 2013. I was tearing’ up the roads on my Ninjette and at 300 cc with a windshield and Gerbs I was at the pinnacle of biker creation.
The I got arrested. Arrested development I mean.
My friends first started talking about their new ABS. Then they started with quick shifters, ride modes and I hear Honda even has hair bags. What do they use hair bags for? Or was it air bags and somebody else has a reverse gear and of course CVT’s. Throttles that don’t have cables and that bike with 2 front wheels. Not the Italian one.
I really enjoy the improvements that have been made because the bikes are now more dependable than ever and in the hands of careless riders safer than ever. And I have to give the manufacturers a lot of credit because they have improved the bikes beyond a new paint color and badging. I don’t miss the simpler bikes but for riders who’ve been in the game less than maybe 20 years, “Sorry guys. You missed a lot of fun and it’s not coming back”.

Am I being unrealistic @ 3500
Had this up on CL and FBM on Long Island. Got 1 call who decided not to. It’s a ‘13 , 650 with about 27k in nice shape.
Not anxious to really sell it but pretty surprised by lack of interest.
I’ve ridden bikes for 50+ years and besides oil, filter, chain and brakes I’ve done remarkably little to keep these Japanese bikes running.
I also have no skill nor patience anymore for more than oil, filter, gas and pulling the chain on my bike. But I want a scoot. Swapping the belt looks like a pain in the butt. Are there any other scheduled or non scheduled maintenances I can expect. I live in an area where the 2 yammie dealers charge over$100/hr if they can give you an appointment. Neither have scoots on the floor and I’m concerned that their techs simply have little to no experience working on anything but conventional bikes. The scoot would be ridden a few times a week on highway when warm, sit in garage when cold. I’d estimate 5k a year.
I’ll admit that dependability is priority#1 for almost anything I use. Heck. My newest vehicle is 11 years old.
From soldering pipes to cast iron tubs to brass hardware I like stuff that will last.
How many of you love your Taco, swear by a Corolla and truly believe Miata is always the answer.
