Why do you keep haunting me
Even though you left me in pieces.
I see you everywhere—
In my books, in my poems.

Why do you stay inside my head,
Haunting me in my sleep?
Why do I keep repeating
All the dialogues we had.

Why do I remember
Your face
As I saw it yesterday.

Why do I come running
Back to you
Only to hurt myself .

No matter how I try—
Do you feel this too?
These flashes of memory,
Or is it just me .

Why do I remember
When I hear déjà vu?
Why do I wish things were
Different—if we were together—

Only to dream of it
As a story
With a sad ending
In my head?
